Frequently asked questions
How is the 90/180 Schengen rule calculated?
You may stay in the Schengen area for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day window. The window moves with the calendar: on any given day, look back 180 days (including that day) and count every day you were present. That count must not exceed 90.
Do the entry and exit days count as days of presence?
Yes. Under official EU short-stay rules, the day of entry counts as the first day of stay and the day of departure counts as the last day of stay. Both are counted, so a same-day trip counts as 1 day.
How many days can I stay in Schengen?
Up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Once you approach the limit, you must leave and wait until enough older presence days fall outside the rolling 180-day window before you can re-enter.
What happens if I exceed 90 days?
Exceeding the allowance is an overstay and can lead to fines, deportation, entry bans, or future visa refusals. The calculator flags an overstay and tells you the date you should have left by.
When can I re-enter Schengen after using my 90 days?
You can re-enter on the first day that your presence in the previous 180 days drops below 90. The calculator computes this earliest legal re-entry date for a planned trip that would exceed the limit.
